How do You Handle Temptation?

TEMPTATION

1 Corinthians 10:13   God can be trusted to not let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptation.  (CEV)

1 Corinthians 10:13   No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.  (NKJV)

Hebrews 2:18   For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

James 1:12-15   Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.  Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.  But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.  Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Do you have trouble dealing with temptation often?  I do.  There are so many things that tempt me.  I love food, sugar, flour, and eggs and lard mixed together into a cake, brownies, cookies or whatever…hard for me to resist.   I love candy, especially chocolates.  Most of the things I like to put in my mouth have lots of calories and fat—pizza, potatoes and gravy, pasta and sauces, and I don’t limit pasta to one cup.

I go round and round with obedience and temptation. . . more times than I like, I give in for “just one.”

I know most folks have temptations and have to fight the urges of whatever desires and yearnings they have.   For some it is gambling, some alcohol, some drugs and pain meds, and shopping, going out to eat, and so many other weaknesses.

How do you handle temptation?  Do you resist most of the time?   Do you find yourself giving in all too often?   Do you find it easy to resist?  Do you have a plan that you will indulge only one day a week?   Do you a different plan to resist temptation and avoid your particular weakness?  I’d love to hear options.

I just finished a bible study on the Book of Hebrews.  I found it strengthening in regards to resisting temptation and realizing that life is better when you understand more clearly what the author of Hebrews writes/proves.  The comparisons are impressive, and we are directed onto a concise path of each momentous journey taking us closer to Jesus, being reminded of each way He is better, and the BEST.

And I must say that my wrestling times with temptation have been easier this past several weeks.  Thank You, Lord for placing me in this study and helping me grow and learn  ‘mybellaviews.’
