Seek and Find
Deuteronomy 4:29 But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.’
Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks, finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened
We’re all been created to want more. Often folks do not realize the more they seek to fill that emptiness that lurks within, this is really seeking a closer relationship with God. The yearning for more, maybe manifests as working more, buying more, earning more, getting THINGS…and yet we are never satisfied. We continue to feel edgy, empty, for….something. But the more is a relationship with God. We are created to seek Him–He made us that way. But instead we run about, searching for things, experiences, finishing tasks, being with others, playing with electronics….SOMETHING. Yet find that we still feel an emptiness, a lack of whatever, yet we frequently don’t reach out to God. Maybe it is not cool, maybe we have decided there is no such entity, maybe we are just without hope that “something” truly exists.
God’s love and mercy does not necessarily improve your finances, immediately fix your stressful family relationships, or give you all the answers. And yet the closer you come to Him, the more you seek Him, the clearer, (not always easier) your path becomes. He supplies us with the Holy Spirit who will guide us when we are overwhelmed with confusion; and studying His words reminds us the stress can be eased if we trust in the guidance He has given.
We live in a country of expecting ‘immediate gratification’ for all our wants and needs. This has become what we rely on. We have television 24/7/365, we have cell phones, and all sorts of gadgets to find information, to connect us with folks on the other side of the world, and more. And we are dumbfounded and anxious if the electricity goes for for a while. We try to oftentimes, bury ourselves in the nonsense on television, get into silly debates on social media, live our lives oftentimes in the headlines of others. And although those activities may take up a part of your day, you are still left with a longing and emptiness.
I’m suggesting you try God. He gives us free choice. But He is there if you want to see if your emptiness will be filled and you will feel different by asking Him to show Himself to you. Read His word. Be amazed at the number of times the “same” things are said by people hundreds of years apart. I’ll give you several phrases you can look up and read in a Bible and see how similar they are. They are similar or the same, because they are GOD’S words; He told these folks what to say. I’ve read the Word several times, and am still amazed to see the number of times the same thing is said by many different authors.
Or I read something that never registered with me before and now it is glaringly apparent, and answers an issue. It’s because I did not need it then, or it was too deep for me, but the Holy Spirit pointed it out at the right time. It was not just added…… it is that it is relevant to me now.
That is one of the wonderful things about learning more of God. The answers are there and they fill a void, and they change one. Maybe if you give it a chance and seek Him through His words, you’ll be changed, that void will be less and you’ll find a true comfort.
Read verses on waiting–Psalm 27:14, Psalm 37:7, 9, 34 and there are many, many more; check out verses on rest–Psalm 37:7 (yes, again) Proverbs 14:33, Matthew 11:28, Here are some on courage Deuteronomy 31:6, 1 Chronicles 28:20, Isaiah 41:13, Matthew 10:28
